Cause of Martinsburg, W.Va., restaurant fire still not clear

April 21, 2007|By MATTHEW UMSTEAD

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - The cause of a fire early Thursday that destroyed an accounting business and a restaurant in Meadow Lane Plaza near Martinsburg still is not clear, West Virginia Assistant State Fire Marshal Ed Robinson said Friday.

"We have nothing conclusive yet," Robinson said.

Officials estimated the blaze, reported Thursday about 4:45 a.m., caused at least $1 million in damage, including the destruction of the Meadow Lane Family Restaurant and Louis T. Young's tax preparation and accounting business at 55 Meadow Lane off U.S. 11.

Robinson said several items have been collected for laboratory analysis, but he could not predict when that lab work would be completed. Robinson anticipated the on-site investigation would be completed Friday.

Anyone with information about the fire may call the Berkeley County Crime Solvers hot line at 304-267-4999 or the state fire marshal's arson hot line at 1-800-233-FIRE (3473).
