A man who pleaded guilty to second-degree sex offense in connection with three sex acts he performed on a 13-year-old boy between about June 1, 2006, and September 2006 was sentenced to nine years in prison Thursday by Washington County Circuit Judge Frederick C. Wright.

Romney Lee Minnick, 44, formerly of 13710 Kenneth St., pleaded guilty to the charge in February. Other charges were dropped.

"This child has been severely damaged," Assistant State's Attorney Gina Cirincion said.

Assistant Public Defender Carl Creeden said his client had medical issues, and has been disabled, so he asked Wright to consider sentencing Minnick to the low end of the guidelines.

Minnick "stepped to the plate and is facing" what he did, Creeden said.

"I wish I could go back in time and change things," Minnick said before he was sentenced.

Wright ordered Minnick to serve 20 years, with 11 suspended. He also ordered Minnick to have no contact with the victim or the victim's family.
