Broadfording gives patriotic program

April 20, 2007

On Friday, March 30, Broadfording Christian Academy held a patriotic performance gallery in honor of the students' grandparents.

The high school choir opened the gallery by singing "Let Freedom Ring,"which was followed by the preschool and kindergarten students singing "Let's Hear It for the Red, White and Blue." The elementary and middle school choirs sang "Colonel Bogey" and "The Grand Old Flag."

The fifth-grade handbell students performed "My Country 'Tis of Thee," with sixth-grader Kyle Martin accompanying them on the piano. Piano solos were performed by fourth-grader Taylor Riggs, first-grader Micah Wyand, second-graders Victoria Marcum and Rachel Nicholson, and third-graders Japeth Whitmore and Joshua Nicholson. The first-grade class sang "Every Move I Make." The second- and third-grade classes sang "The Fifty, Nifty United States," and the fourth grade recited "The American Creed."

The final song, "God Bless America," was performed by all three choral groups together. The choral groups were directed by music teacher Pam Smith.

Near the end of the gallery, the audience was encouraged to move as close to the front of the auditorium as possible, so that they could watch closely as the guest performer, the Rev. Jim Ellsmore, a chalk evangelist from Indiana, Pa., created a beautiful landscape on canvas, using a variety of colored chalk. He played patriotic music while he created the scene. The message behind his drawing was "Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord."

Art work and book reports were also on display by the following students: Gloria Lewis, James Cooper Wells, Cheska Knable, Adam Brown, Taylor Riggs, Isabel Divinagracia, Ashley Burkett, Katie Connolly, Valerie Downs, Monica Divinagracia, Melissa Horman, Priscilla Wall and Abbie Wolford.
