April 18, 2007|by KATE S. ALEXANDER

Home Chemical Safety Week officially kicked off Tuesday when the Washington County Commissioners issued the proclamation during its regularly scheduled meeting.

After issuing the proclamation, the board announced the winners of the 2007 Home Chemical Safety Program Poster Contest.

Open to fourth-grade students in the county, the contest judged a student's artistic representation of chemical tips learned during the safety program.

About 1,000 students created posters, but only one winner was chosen from each school.

Lexus Guthrie from Lincolnshire Elementary School won the grand prize, second prize went to Jazlyn Davis of Salem Avenue Elementary School and third prize went to Cody Crouse of Pleasant Valley Elementary School.

Home Chemical Safety Week is April 15 to 21.
