Fire and Rescue OK'd to receive grant

April 18, 2007|by KATE S. ALEXANDER

Washington County Fire and Rescue received county approval Tuesday to accept $163,132 in state grant money for special projects at its new 911 Center along Elliott Parkway.

Kevin Lewis, deputy director of the division of fire and emergency service, said the Emergency Number System Board (ENSB) awarded the grant.

Assessed on every call made to 911, the ENSB places 25 cents of each $1 fee collected into a trust fund for awarding grants.

Lewis said the department will spend most of the grant to establish standard protocol for all emergency respondents. The rest will go toward training, equipment and fiber-optic telephone lines.
