April 17, 2007

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Chambersburg Faust FFA Dairy Judging team, from J. Frank Faust Junior High School, won first place overall in the Ohio Spring Dairy Expo.

The competition, an Eastern Regional U.S. event, drew more than 325 students from more than eight states, team Coach Lisa Shaw said. The team's trip to Columbus, Ohio, lasted from March 30 to April 2.

The members of Faust's top notch team are Sarah Mallard, Dakota Hampton, Jared McIntire, Joe Hawbaker and Jessie Kline.

Shaw said the team had to judge six classes of two of Holstein, two Jersey, one Brown Swiss and one Ayrshire.

She said the students had to assign linear points on four Holstein dairy cows. There are 20 different traits, which the students have to assign points from one to 50.
