Joseph L. Moore, 90



NOV. 8, 1916-APRIL 15, 2007

Joseph Leroy Moore, 90, of Hagerstown, Md., passed away Sunday, April 15, 2007, at his home.

Born Wednesday, Nov. 8, 1916, in Clear Spring, Md., he was the son of the late Hubert M. Moore and the late Lilly Dail Moore.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Martha Rebecca Moore, in 2006.

He was employed with the City of Hagerstown, retiring as superintendent of parks.

He was a member of the First Christian Church and a charter member of the Fairview Sportsman's Association.

He is survived by his daughter, Janice L. Smith, and husband, Gerry, of Winchester, Va.; grandson, Jerry L. Smith, and wife, Donna, of Winchester; and two sisters, Catherine Schmidt of Hagerstown and Ruth "Tillie" Kendle of Williamsport, Md.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Marie Barnes, and one brother, Marshall Moore.

Services will be held Wednesday, April 18, 2007, at 10:30 a.m. from Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, with the Rev. Fred M. Harris officiating.

Family will receive friends at the funeral home 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 17.

Interment will be in St. Paul's Cemetery, Clear Spring.

Memorial donations may be made in memory of Leroy c/o City of Hagerstown Parks and Recreation, 351 N. Cleveland Ave., Hagerstown, MD 21740. Contributions may be made out to the City of Hagerstown, Swan and Water Fowl Fund.




Georgia S. Drake, 93

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Georgia S. Drake, 93, of Martinsburg, died Saturday, April 14, 2007, at Heartland of Martinsburg.

Born Feb. 27, 1914, in Braxton County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Harry Frank and Edith Barnett Sears.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmon E. Drake.

She retired as a receptionist from The Johns Hopkins Hospital.

She is survived by one daughter, Evelyn McAvoy of Martinsburg; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Delford Drake and Darris Drake. She was the last of her immediate family.

Graveside services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Glen Haven Memorial Park, Glen Burnie, Md.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg.




Wayne P. Sexton II, 57

NEWPORT, Pa. - Wayne P. "Yogi Bear" Sexton II, 57, of Newport, and formerly of Myersville, Md., died Wednesday, April 11, 2007, at his home.

Born Dec. 24, 1949, in Goshen, N.Y., he was the son of Ruth Kline Sexton of Myersville and the late Wayne P. Sexton Sr.

He was a member of Myersville Volunteer Fire Co., Cumberland Moose and Teamsters Local 776.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his companion of 23 years, Doris Hinkle; one son, Christopher Hinkle of Newport; brothers, George Sexton of San Antonio, John Sexton and David Sexton, both of Myersville, Mark Sexton of Frederick, Md., and Paul Sexton of Middletown, Md.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth N. Sexton and Donna M. Sexton.

Services will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at J.L. Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg. Pastor Brad Nigh will officiate. Burial will be in Fort Lincoln Cemetery, Brentwood, Md.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.




Mary E. Boppe, 87



JUNE 4, 1919-APRIL 13, 2007

HAGERSTOWN, Md. - Mary Elizabeth Boppe, 87, of Hagerstown, passed away Friday, April 13, 2007, at her home.

Born June 4, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Fred L. and Mary Watt (Bell) Fales.

Mrs. Boppe had worked as an office secretary for Hiway Furniture Mart, Hagerstown.

She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Hagerstown. She also was a member of the Theater Group, a local ladies group who booked talent from New York, Baltimore and York, Pa., to perform for students at North Hagers-town High School.

She is survived by three sons, Keith L. Boppe of Hagerstown, Gary L. Boppe and wife, Fran, of Beaverdam, Va., and Eric L. Boppe and wife, Lynne, of Hagerstown; two grandchildren, Tara Boppe and Heather (Boppe) Andrews and husband, Jesse; one great-granddaughter, Danielle Kunda; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she also was preceded in death by her husband, Marion Lee Boppe, who passed away in September of 2004; and three brothers, Milo Fales, Laverne Fales and Paul Fales.

Funeral services will be conducted at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, Hagerstown, on Tuesday, April 17, 2007, at 1 p.m. with the Rev. John W. Schildt officiating.

Interment will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery.

Friends will be received at the funeral home today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of Washington County, 747 Northern Ave., Hagerstown, MD 21742.

BURKITTSVILLE, Md. - Brenda Sue Fawley, 55, of Burkittsville, died Saturday, April 14. She was the wife of Ralph E. Fawley.
