Top-ranked Jefferson reaches tourney semis

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - Brandon Campbell pitched a complete game and No. 1 Jefferson scored all three of its runs in the second inning of a 3-1 victory over Fairport (N.Y.) in a Hawaiian Tropic Tournament quarterfinal game on Thursday.

Campbell (2-0) scattered five hits and Matt Tiano drove in two for the Cougars (11-1).

Hedgesville 23, Thomas Heyward 11

HILTON HEAD, S.C. - Michael Lopez, Jesse Simmons and Maurice Adams each had three hits and Hedgesville drew 12 walks in a Batrup Tournament win over Thomas Heyward (S.C.).

Hedgesville (4-8) scored 15 runs in the top of the fifth to put the game away. Lopez and Mike Ferrari had three RBI each, Simmons and Adams had two RBI each, Matt Stewart had five hits and Chris Scanlan drew five walks for the Eagles.

Greencastle 6, Trinity 5

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Rusty Cordell, Tim Armstrong and Jeff Fisher each doubled to lead Greencastle-Antrim to a Mid-Penn Capital victory over Trinity.

Fisher, Trevor Ile, and Cole Sellers each had an RBI for the Blue Devils (4-3).




PREP SOFTBALL



Goretti 13, Mercersburg 9

MERCERSBURG, Pa. - St. Maria Goretti was held to four hits, but took advantage of 17 walks in a win over Mercersburg Academy.

Caroline Rosenthal picked up the complete-game win for the Gaels (1-6).

Destinee Hays had three hits and Lauren Dobish had two triples for the Blue Storm (3-3).




GIRLS LACROSSE



St. James 11, Wakefield 4

THE PLAINS, Va. - Caroline Salisbury scored three goals to lead St. James over Wakefield School. Meredith Leachman had two goals and an assist, while Se Young Lee, Zoe Morgens, Bethann Wilson, Leila Chouai, Kelsey Hilton and Courtney Peterson each had a goal for the Saints (4-1).

Gina Clapp had two assists and Allie Marriott had seven saves.




GIRLS SOCCER



Waynesboro 3, Greencastle 1

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Jenna Lininger scored two goals to lead Waynesboro over Greencastle-Antrim.

Molly Sanders scored a goal and Samantha Sebald, Leann Sebald, and Katie Sandifer each had an assist for the Maidens.

Chelsea Wolff scored on an assist from Vanedra Wingert and Whitney Nave recorded 21 saves for the Blue Devils.
