You Said It

"I see Hagerstown is having a spring cleanup. Williamsport has no cleanup. I guess we will have to put milk on our leaves and have them for breakfast."

"Am I mistaken, or is G.W. Bush still our president? I thought the Speaker of the House was just that. If he is, why is the Speaker of the House who is third in line for the presidency ... gee, are they planning on doing away with Mr. Cheney and Mr. Bush and letting Ms. Pelosi take over? Because if they are, why don't they put a crown on her?"

"This is in response to the water and sewer rate hikes going in Hagerstown. If they want to be competitive, like the paper said, how about if they bring the jobs to Hagerstown, like they have in Frederick? Now I see why people in Hagerstown are selling their homes and moving to Pennsylvania and West Virginia. How about if we get the jobs to Hagerstown, and maybe the pay hike would be OK. See what the City Council can do about that."

"I would like to comment about the page in the paper this morning called 'Scoreboard' on page D2. I would like to make a suggestion that the major league baseball and the other sports scores be made into two pages instead of the one, because the print is so fine that the average person can hardly read that page."

"This is pertaining to the person in Mail Call saying the Democrats are in and the gas goes up 20 to 25 cents a gallon, so it can't be the Republicans. That's kind of stupid, because the President is still a Republican, and that's where all the opinions rest on. That's where everything starts from."

- Hagerstown

"The president is threatening to veto the so-called emergency spending bill for the war. He says the Democrats have loaded it with pork and put too many restrictions on it, and he must have the bill right away or it will threaten our troops. Last year the Republicans loaded the emergency spending bill with pork, and it took them 109 days to pass it. The president didn't talk about an emergency then. The year before, it took them 80 days, and it was again full of pork. Once again, the president and the Republicans didn't talk about how our troops were in danger because the funding was not approved right away."

"Here is where the double standard comes into play with the Democrats and Republicans in the press. When Ann Coulter says something about the Democrats, it is plastered on every newspaper and every TV station there is, but when Rosie O'Donnell bashes the president and says that the U.S. caused its own problems with 9/11, that it was a conspiracy, and also the man that orchestrated 9/11 is a hero, then nothing is said in the press at all. In fact, she is given standing ovations when she goes on TV. So that is where the double standard comes into play. I just don't understand the American people any more."

"To the caller on Social Security: I think you need to get your ducks in a row. Why is that Social Security being taken off our checks if not for retired people to live on? Not all places have retirement benefits. Check it out. Social Security and SSI is a little different."

"Baseball season is upon us, and Barry 'Steroids' Bonds is going for a home run record. I can remember when Hank Aaron did it on my birthday, April 8, 1974. He got hate mail, called all kinds of racial names, and people threatened to kill him, and he was doing it legally. He had more bats than Babe Ruth, but he was doing it legally."

- Hagerstown

"To the person who said Newt Gingrich was upfront about his affair and told anyone: Why are we only hearing about it six-plus years after it happened? If he wasn't considering a run at the presidency - God forbid - he never would have been so upfront about it."

"I would like to know if there are any local antiwar groups that are planning demonstrations in the local area. If so, please reply to Mail Call. Thank you."

- Williamsport

"This is for the Berkeley County, W.Va. caller, saying Democrats are throwing out stuff to see if they can make something stick; 'Their hatred for Bush administration overshadows most everything they do.' No more than what the hatred for the Clinton administration was. For eight years they tried to dig up every little thing they could, and they couldn't make nothing stick."

- Hagerstown

"What ever happened to that old thing about giving aid and comfort to the enemy? First it was Jane Fonda in Vietnam, then a few more traitors in between over the years, and now it's House Speaker Nancy Pelosi running around the world giving aid to the terrorists. I'm sure the terrorists are all just sitting back laughing, and just waiting on the Democrats to do what they gotta do, and that's give this country away. And I'm a Democrat."
