Musselman's Haislip wins Dutton Award

April 06, 2007

Musselman senior Dustin Haislip has won the Dutton Award, The Herald-Mail learned Thursday evening.

The Dutton Award is given annually to the top prep wrestler in West Virginia, determined by a vote of sportswriters and coaches.

"They said it wasn't unanimous, but it was as close to unanimous as they've had in a long time," Musselman coach Mark Cagle said. "It's a big deal. It brings a lot of notoriety to this area."

Haislip was named Outstanding Wrestler of the Class AAA state tournament in February after winning the 135-pound title for his third straight state title. He won at 125 last year and at 112 as a sophomore.

Last week, Haislip, who went 42-2 this past season and 161-7 for his career, was named The Herald-Mail's Wrestler of the Year for the second straight season.

Hedgesville's Anthony Regalbuto, the area's only other Dutton Award winner, received the honor in 2000.
