Holy Week services at area houses of worship

On Good Friday, a light meal at 6 p.m. will be followed by the showing of "The Passion of Christ."

Calvary United Methodist Church, 220 W. Burke St., Martinsburg, W.Va., a Holy Thursday communion service will begin at 7 p.m. with the meditation, Christ with Us, Christ Given for Us.

Saint Augustine Catholic Church, 32 E. Potomac St., Williamsport, Holy Thursday Mass of the Lord's Supper will begin at 7 p.m.

On Good Friday, the Lord's Passion and Communion service will also begin at 7 p.m.

Valley Assembly of God, 17544 York Road, Hagerstown, the theme of the Good Friday service at 7 p.m. is Old Cross, New Cross.

St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Smithsburg, Maundy Thursday activities begin at 7:30 p.m. with communion and the washing of feet of the members of this year's confirmation class.

The service will also include the stripping of the altar and leaving the service in silence.

Smithsburg Area Church Association, on Good Friday at 1 p.m., members of the community are invited to join in the annual Good Friday walk on the Seven Last Words from the Cross.

The walk will begin at the front steps of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 51 S. Main St., and will end at the front steps of Trinity Lutheran Church, 15 Main St.

Williamsport United Methodist Church, 25 E. Church St., a dinner theater entitled, The Room Upstairs, will be presented on Maundy Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall.

Saint James Catholic Church, 127 N. Main St., Boonsboro, Holy Thursday Mass of the Lord's Supper will start at 7 p.m.

The Good Friday Lord's Passion and Communion service also begins at 7 p.m.

Paramount Brethren in Christ, 19106 Longmeadow Road, Hagerstown, a reenactment of the Last Supper, with a footwashing service and communion will be held on Maundy Thursday at 7 p.m.

Good Friday service is at 7 p.m. with a musical drama presentation of "We Were There," by the chancel choir.

St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Lappans Road, Boonsboro, Maundy Thursday will begin at 7:30 p.m. with a service of communion.

Bach's Cantata No. 111 by the St. Mark's Choir and student vocalists and musicians from Shenandoah Conservatory will follow.

On Good Friday at noon and 7 p.m., the liturgy will be presented. At 6 p.m., there will be soup and bread supper, a dramatic presentation by the Junior Daughters of the King and footwashing, all held in the Parish Hall.

St. Andrew's United Methodist Church, 1020 Maryland Ave., Hagerstown, Holy Thursday and Good Friday Tenebrae services will begin each night at 7.

Marion (Pa.) United Methodist Church, 94 Colorado St., the Marion community Good Friday service will begin at 7 p.m.

Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church, 99 Miller St., Chambersburg, Pa., community Holy Thursday services will begin at 7 p.m.

State Line (Pa.) United Methodist Church, the Maundy Thursday service will begin at 7:30 p.m.

Trinity United Methodist Church, 200 W. Martin St., Martinsburg, W.Va., a community Good Friday Cross Walk begins at 10:30 a.m.

Trinity Episcopal Church, 200 W. King St., Martinsburg, W.Va., a community Good Friday service will begin at noon.

Shepherdstown (W.Va.) Ministerial Association, a community Good Friday service will begin at noon with the liturgy at Trinity Episcopal Church.

At 1 p.m., there will a walk be time to New Street United Methodist Church and a time for prayer. At 1:30 p.m., a dramatic presentation, The Twelve Who Knew Him, will be presented.

Then at 2:30 p.m. there will be a walk to St. Agnes Catholic Church and a time for prayer. The Stations of the Cross will be at 3 p.m.

Church of the Apostles, Waynesboro, Pa., Pastor Carol Kipe will speak on the topic, He Will Walk, at the 7 p.m. communion service Maundy Thursday.

Asbury United Methodist Church, Shepherdstown, W.Va., a seder meal and a movie will be held tonight at 7.

On Good Friday, a special service is planned for 7 p.m.

Zion Lutheran Church, 35 W. Potomac St., Williamsport, Maundy Thursday services will include a 3 p.m. quiet communion and 7 p.m. evening service.

On Good Friday, the congregation will participate in a Cross Walk. The Tenebrae service begins at 7:30 p.m.

Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church, 17626 Bakersville Road, Bakersville, Maundy Thursday and Good Friday services will begin at 7 nightly.

Salem Reformed Church, the Maundy Thursday service will begin at 7:30 p.m. Pastor Steve Wagoner will speak on the topic, The Passover Lamb. Ellen Davis will be the liturgist

On Good Friday at 7:30 p.m., Wagoner will speak on the topic, Three Hours of Darkness. Earmon Shifflett will serve as liturgist.

New Beginnings Christian Fellowship Church, meeting at Potomac Heights Elementary School, 301 E. Magnolia Ave., Hagerstown, Maundy Thursday services at 7 p.m. will feature foot washing and communion.

The choir cantata, Man of Sorrows, will be presented on Good Friday at 7 p.m.

Beaver Creek Church of the Brethren, 20402 Beaver Creek Road, Hagerstown, Maundy Thursday service will begin at 7 p.m. with a love feast and communion.

Good Friday reflections and prayer is from 10 a.m. to noon, and from 6 to 8 p.m.

Manor Church of the Brethren, the Maundy Thursday service will begin at 7 p.m. with Pastor Joy Zepp leading the service. There will be communion, foot washing, a shared meal, all embedded within short meditations, music and scripture readings.
