April 03, 2007

A 31-year-old New Jersey woman died in a two-vehicle accident Monday afternoon that caused the closure of Interstate 81 for about four hours, Pennsylvania State Police in Chambersburg said.

Police said Megan E. Sullivan, of Belford, was a passenger in a vehicle that hit a tractor-trailer at about 2:55 p.m. Monday in Antrim Township, Pa.

Police said Christopher L. Haines, 24, of Greencastle, Pa., was driving the vehicle in which Sullivan was a passenger. As the vehicle got off the interstate at exit 5, it hit a tractor-trailer that was stopped on the ramp because of traffic, police said

Sullivan was not wearing a seat belt, and she was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Trooper Franklin M. Hershey Jr. said Haines, who was wearing his seat belt, was treated at Chambersburg Hospital and released.

Charles D. Collins, 38, of New Brunswick, Canada, who was driving the 2005 Freightliner Columbia, was not hurt.
