Amish wood shop destroyed in Franklin Co.

April 03, 2007

DRY RUN, Pa. - Fire destroyed an Amish woodshop on Sweetwater Road in the northern tip of Franklin County, Pa., on Monday afternoon despite the efforts of firefighters with nine companies, Fannett-Metal Fire Chief Sam Peterson said.

Someone stopped at the fire department at 2:50 p.m. and reported that a building was possibly on fire about a mile away, Peterson said.

"You could see the smoke for miles," he said.

The blaze in the 40-by-70 building is believed to have started in a woodstove, Peterson said.

Firefighters were on the scene for three hours, he said.
