Clear Spring Middle School's Lily Pinkham named top student in county for February

Lily Pinkham, an eighth-grade student at Clear Spring Middle School, received the Youth Meritorious Award for February at last week's Washington County Commissioners meeting.

The daughter of Edward and Dawn Pinkham, Lily was an "A" and "B" student throughout elementary school and has been named to the distinguished honor roll and honor roll throughout middle school.

She's been a member of the morning announcements crew as well as the Clear Spring Middle School Chorus, performing last year with the Maryland Symphony Orchestra. In band, she holds the position of first-chair clarinet.

A Girl Scout for four years, Lily is the winner of the Principal's Citizenship Award for 2006 and STARS Awards for band and English.

Lily volunteers in the community, working a pancake breakfast, Christmas caroling at nursing homes with the Girl Scouts, replanting gardens at Clear Spring Elementary and Clear Spring Middle schools and participating in the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital Math-A-Thon in 2001 and 2002.

"Lily is cooperative, kind to others and really cares about the school. She is a highly motivated student and an outstanding citizen," wrote Clear Spring staff member Earl Meagher, who nominated Lily for the award.

Commissioners President John F. Barr presented Lily with the award.
