PREP BASEBALL



LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. - Mercersburg Academy served up a grand slam in both ends of a doubleheader and committed seven errors on the day as the Blue Storm was swept by Lawrenceville in a Mid-Atlantic Prep League twinbill.

Ryan Colby hit a solo home run and Cord Heine hit a two-run shot for the Blue Storm in the first game. Dusty French added a pair of doubles.

The Blue Storm (0-3, 0-2) was held to four hits in the second game.

Chambersburg 4, Governor Mifflin 2

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Chambersburg used the methodical approach, scoring single runs in four of the first five innings, to pick up a victory over Governor Mifflin.

The Trojans (2-0) scored in the first, second, third and fifth innings, while pitchers Jimmy Byers and Marshall Gilbert combined to allow four hits.

Calvin Mentzer ripped an RBI single in the third to give the Trojans a 3-0 lead and provide what was the winning run.

Ben Eby had two hits and an RBI for Chambersburg, while Gilbert had two hits and scored twice.

So. Fulton 11, Hancock 3

HANCOCK - Quentin Hull went 3-for-4 with a two-run homer and pitchers Jesse Smartt and Colt Redman combined on a two-hitter with 11 strikeouts as Southern Fulton beat Hancock.

Smartt, Redman and Jeremy Clingerman each added two hits for the Indians.

Lucas Trunkle and Nick Harvey had the only hits for Hancock (1-3).




PREP SOFTBALL



MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - St. Maria Goretti went 0-3 at the Gene Baker Tournament, losing 17-6 to Musselman and 11-1 to Fairmont on Friday and falling 12-3 to Frankfort on Saturday.

Megan Holmes had three hits and Lacey Williams had two to lead Musselman past Goretti, while Gabby Turano had two hits and three RBI for the Gaels.

Alex Penn had a two-run double and Katie Marrama and Kaila Chaney each had two hits for Goretti (0-6) in Saturday's loss.

Mercersburg 5-8, Lawrenceville 1-5

LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. - Mercersburg scored five runs in the second and Cree Riley struck out eight as Mercersburg Academy defeated Lawrenceville in the first game of a doubleheader.

In the second game, Lizz Harvey hit a home run in the second inning and Riley struck out four as the Blue Storm completed the sweep.
