Man faces two attempted second-degree murder counts

March 30, 2007

Probable cause was found Thursday in Washington County District Court to forward to Circuit Court charges against a Hagerstown man who allegedly shot his cousin in the abdomen.

Luis Esteban Santiago Jr., 26, of 1028 Noland Drive, was charged with two counts of attempted second-degree murder in the shooting. He was at the Washington County Detention Center Thursday night, a deputy said.

Santiago allegedly fired a long silver handgun on the night of Jan. 20 at his cousin and toward a vehicle in which another of his cousins was sitting, according to a charging document.

One of Santiago's cousins told police the men were waiting for Santiago outside a home on Noland Drive, where Santiago had gone to get money so they all could buy beer. When Santiago failed to come out of the house, one of his cousins approached the door and knocked. Santiago then pointed the gun and fired, the charging document alleges.
