Deadline for home repair program set for Monday

March 30, 2007

The deadline to apply for home improvement assistance through the Antietam Workcamp project this summer is Monday.

The Antietam Workcamp is sponsored by Group Workcamps Foundation, St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Williamsport churches, South County churches and REACH Caregivers Inc.

The workcamp's goal this summer is to make repairs to 70 homes in seven days.

This year, those seven days will be July 22 to 28. Home repairs are free to all qualifying households.

To qualify, you must own your home and either be a senior citizen (age 55 and older), disabled or on a low/fixed income.

Repairs will be made to houses in Williamsport, Keedysville, Boonsboro, Sharpsburg, Downsville, Fairplay, Funkstown and other South County areas, as well as Hagerstown.

Group workcamps are intensive one-week trips that help people grow in Christian faith through service.

The work at each home will be done by five young people and at least one adult leader, representing many Christian denominations.

Eligible repairs include porch repair/construction, weatherproofing, step repair, wheelchair ramp repair or construction, exterior painting, mobile home underpinning and interior painting. Other requests will be considered.
