"In reference to the smoking ban in public places and bars: Yes, it's a good thing that they banned it, because if someone doesn't smoke and they're exposed to the smoke, more than likely for secondhand smoke they will get the lung cancer. We had a family member who died of lung cancer, and that was not a pretty picture - taken to chemotherapy, losing their hair. They suffer terribly for a whole year. Please, smokers, take consideration of your health and people's health around you."

"When I was growing up, I was taught that if you told one lie, you probably have to tell many more lies to cover up your first lie. Today it seems our government is in this situation in many areas. I do not think we have a chance to improve until the 2008 election - if then."

"How refreshing to see the picture on the front page of Sunday's newspaper of the spelling bee champion wearing a dress shirt and tie. I commend him and I commend his parents."

"How much did it cost to mail the information on the public schools in Washington County, especially to people who have no children in school? Why not give that money to the teachers who so richly deserve it?"

"I always liked President Bush, but I think the man has totally lost all sense of reality. If he has nothing to hide, why is the staff members now gonna plead the Fifth? You don't plead the Fifth unless you have something to hide. I'm so ashamed of myself. I should have voted for Al Gore."

"I went to the Valley Mall food court on Saturday morning to hear the contestants sing the National Anthem. It was just really nice to see the sheriff's wife up there singing the National Anthem. She did an awesome job. She has a wonderful voice, and I really hope that she is selected."

"I have a simple request for the local newspaper - Herald-Mail or Daily Mail, it doesn't matter - find out for the taxpayers, because we are footing the bill for this, how much money was spent to transport injured inmates, victims of assault and so on. What did it cost to fly them by helicopter from Washington County Hospital to the larger hospitals in the metropolitan area? I think the taxpayers should be told of this when it happens. It should be reported."

"I see in Monday night's paper on the back page where the city or town of Aberdeen, Md., is having trouble because they built a minor league stadium, and now it's breaking the city's budget. They're even trying to sell it, it was such a bad deal. I'm really glad that we didn't let our people in charge build a new stadium in Hagerstown. It was just something, with everything else that we need, that we did not need to put money into a new stadium. So I just want the powers that be to realize that some of their pipe dreams don't always pan out."

"I'm calling to congratulate the Williamsport High School varsity boys basketball team on another great season, two consecutive 18-win seasons, and two region finals. Congratulations to the boys and Coach Mowbray. Coach Mowbray not only teaches the boys great basketball skills, but he teaches them life skills and how to be fine young men. So congratulations to the Wildcats."
