"With everything going up - our water, sewage, gas, lights, phone, cable, car emissions, and the bay, rent - with all these maybe we should just send our checks to the commissioners and let them try to pay our bills out of it. But don't forget, commissioners, we have to eat. On top of that, they want our tax dollars to pay for pavements of the business people in town. We do have to pay for our own pavements, don't we?"

"To all those who are against the new hospital, I ask you this: Have you been a patient lately, or have you had a loved one there for care? If you have, then you surely are aware of why the citizens of this area need a new hospital. We have outgrown this one. The halls are lined with equipment, the patient rooms are so crowded that it is difficult for staff to function properly at the bedside."

"For those urging construction of the hospital at Robinwood, why not get the traffic problems corrected and the roads upgraded before building? Maybe then more people would support the move."

"I would like to know why some well-meaning people insist on sending flowers to families who have lost loved ones. My mother recently passed, and at her request, donations in lieu of flowers were noted in her obituary. Needless to say, six beautiful arrangements arrived. I know each one of them had to have cost at least $50 each. That's $300 that should have been donated to a worthy charity. Fortunately, there were several donations in her memory to the charity she requested. Please, readers, pay more attention to requests."

"I think Funkstown should use some of its tourism money to buy Segways, like the City of Hagerstown is for their tourism."

"This is for the Hagerstown caller who called about her daughter who is a single mother and can't afford to have her teeth taken care of. I feel sorry for this woman, and I wish we could help and others could help her, but the plain truth is, right now we're spending too much money to kill people around the world, and we can't afford to take care of our own because of that situation."

"When George declared 'Mission accomplished' we were also told that there were little or no damage to Iraqi oil wells. Why then is their oil production much less than it was before the U.S. troops invaded the country."

"A comment today about parents and grandparents not having to pay tutors to do the job that teachers are paid to do, regarding reading in third and fourth grad: They're right; they shouldn't hire tutors. The parents and grandparents should be sitting down with these children and teaching them to read in the evening and reinforcing what the teacher does in the daytime. No tutors; parental involvement - family time the way it should be spent."
"I am really irritated. When they say 'the fee state,' they're absolutely correct. I own a small 14.5 foot fishing boat, and last year I paid $13.50 for a sticker for the license plate on the trailer. I just got the bill for this year: $51. That's not quite 300 percent increase. I cannot understand how they can get away with that, and nobody seems to either know about it, care about it, or say anything about it. I don't know what to do about it. Maybe I'll just get a surfboard."
