Church's Cross Walk scheduled for April 6

March 28, 2007

St. Andrew Presbyterian Church in Williamsport's annual Cross Walk to commemorate the walk that Jesus took to Calvary on the Friday before Easter will be April 6.

The Good Friday walk begins at noon and will take a 3-mile route along Virginia Avenue, complete with a 75-pound cross.

In Hagerstown, a Good Friday event called The Way of the Cross will consist of a walk to seven different locations as a way to connect the passion of Christ to the ongoing suffering in the world today.

The sites include Public Square ... for religious tolerance; a slave auction site ... for racial harmony; Hagerstown Refugee Resettlement Center ... for hope, care and justice for immigrants; REACH ... for needs of the hungry and the homeless; the Walnut Street Health Clinic ... for available health care; CASA ... for stability and peace in the home; and Mount Hope Prison Ministry/Washington County Court House ... for the imprisoned.

The walk begins at 1 p.m. and ends at 2:30 p.m. from the Hagerstown Church of the Brethren, corner of East Washington and South Mulberry streets.

At each stop, walkers will recall an experience of Christ during his last week and relate it to the many important social concerns in our community.

For those who are not able to walk, the Hagerstown Church of the Brethren sanctuary will be open for prayer and meditation.
