ANNAPOLIS - Representatives from the Washington County Association of Student Councils met recently with state senators and delegates in Annapolis as part of Maryland Association of Student Councils Lobbying Day, according to a Washington County Public Schools press release.
The day provided an opportunity for student leaders to meet with state representatives, discuss issues of interest and lobby for bills sponsored by the state student councils association, according to the release.
Washington County representatives met with Washington County delegation chairman Del. LeRoy E. Myers Jr., R-Washington/Allegany, who presented an overview of the workings of the General Assembly. Del. Richard B. Weldon Jr., R-Frederick/Washington, discussed health-care bills and Del. John P. Donoghue, D-Washington, spoke to the students about their civic involvement. Sen. Donald F. Munson, R-Washington, shared updates about appropriations and tax bills proposed by General Assembly leadership.
Dels. Robert A. McKee and Christopher B. Shank, Republicans representing Washington County, briefly met with the students.
