Ugly bird

Way Off Broadway Children's Theatre presents the Hans Christian Andersen story of an ugly duck whose life turns around dramatically. Turns out that all is not what it seems.

"The Ugly Duckling" continues through Saturday, April 14. On Saturdays, doors open for lunch at 11:30 a.m.; show begins at 12:30 p.m. On alternate Sundays, doors open for lunch at 12:30 p.m.; show begins at 1:30 p.m. On select Wednesdays, doors open for lunch at 11 a.m.; show begins at noon.

Early rockers

Wayside Theatre presents "Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story." The musical chronicles the two-year musical career and tragic death of Buddy Holly, one of the pioneers of rock 'n' roll music. Final shows are at 7:30 p.m. today, Friday, March 23, and Saturday, March 24; and 2:30 p.m. Saturday. The theater is at U.S. 11, Main Street, in Middletown, Va. 'Into the Woods'

Erica Hernandez plays the Baker's Wife and Jeremy Spangler plays the Baker in Clear Spring High School's production of "Into the Woods," by Stephen Sondheim. "Into the Woods" is a modern, musical retelling of traditional fairy tales, featuring Red Riding Hood, Jack and the giant of bean stalk fame, a prince. Some characters achieve their heart's desire; some live to regret it. Although the characters are from children's stories, the themes are mature.
