HANCOCK - Jake Foreman fired a two-hitter with 10 strikeouts as Hancock rolled past Paw Paw 10-1 Thursday in its season opener.

Foreman, Ben Hoopengardner, Josh Finney and Willie Powell each drove in two runs for the Panthers (1-0), who led 10-0 after the second inning.

Mac Gebert spoiled Foreman's no-hit bid with an RBI double in the fifth inning. Danny Oliver had the only other hit for Paw Paw (0-1).

N. Hagerstown 5, Frederick 2

Marcellus Sumlin went 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI as North Hagerstown beat Frederick. Cody Nelling had two RBI and Mark Dattilio and Tyler Hornbaker added one RBI each for the Hubs (1-0).


Kyle Hoffman struck out four and picked up the win.

Andrew Zimnik had two hits for Frederick (0-1).

Martinsburg 3, Moorefield 2

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Jordan Mason scored the game-winning run on a Zack Newhouse suicide squeeze in the bottom of the seventh inning as Martinsburg defeated Moorefield (0-1).

Brandon King allowed one earned run on three hits and struck out 10 for the Bulldogs (2-0).

Jefferson 10, St. John's 0

SHENANDOAH JUNCTION, W.Va. - Bryan Maxfield surrendered only one hit and struck out eight in four innings as Jefferson blanked St. John's Catholic Prep in five innings.

The Cougars tallied 11 hits and nine stolen bases in the win. Matt Tiano went 3-for-3 and Jonathan Hash and Sean Adam each had two hits. Tiano and Colton Gustines each stole two bases.


N. Hagerstown 6, Frederick 0

Kelly Toms struck out 10 in a one-hit shutout as North Hagerstown opened the season with a victory against Frederick.

Toms and Tanaisha Russ each had an RBI for the Hubs (1-0).


Grace 1, Broadfording 0

Gabriella Durr scored unassisted 10 minutes into the second half as Grace Academy edged Broadfording Christian in the season-opener for both teams.

The Knights (1-0) pulled off the victory despite being outshot 11-3. Tori Aikens recorded the shutout with nine saves.


Smithsburg 15, South Hagerstown 1 at SMITHSBURG

SMITHSBURG - Erin Mozingo and Liz Hutchison each had three goals to lead Smithsburg past South Hagerstown.

Carly Jones and Cassie Petty each had two goals and Amber Ford, Amanda Startzman, Nathalie DiLindro, Hanna Garver, Jade Tastanoski, Allyn Sailing, Monica Hovermale and Megan Bromley each added one for the Leopards (1-0).

Sarah Grove led South Hagerstown (0-1) with two goals.
