You Said It

"I am really getting tired of people complaining about daylight-saving time. It was done as an energy-conserving measure. As far as the kids standing outside in the dark before school starts, if the parents are that concerned, then go out with them and stand with them in the dark. Furthermore, these are the same kids that we see traipsing up and down the road at 4 in the morning. On snow days when it's snowing, we don't see them without any coats on, etc., etc. So please, let's have enough of this 'These poor kids cannot stay out in the dark.' Yes, they can. Tell them to toughen it up."

- Halfway

"This morning while driving to work, as my kids slept in bed, I honked for their teachers."

- Martinsburg, W.Va.

"The county water and sewer rates are going up July 1. Those with water and sewer rate increases and also all others in the county, be prepared, because I guarantee you, July 1, your property tax is going to increase."

"Thank you for the adorable picture of the boy and his dog on the excavation crew on Wednesday, March 14. It tells you that no matter how many toys they have, they still like to dig in the dirt."

- Hancock

"I live near Fort Ritchie. I keep reading about the thousands and thousands of dollars worth of copper being stolen. Why doesn't the developer hire a security guard or store the copper in a more secure location?"

- Smithsburg

"To the people fighting the hospital moving to Robinwood: You certainly have the right to do what you're doing, but be careful what you wish for. You might prevent the hospital moving there, but what are you going to do when a 400 housing unit moves there then? Lord knows what's going to live in those housing. You won't be able to keep something going in there forever. Sometimes you have to take the lesser of two evils."

- Hagerstown

"I'd like to call about the parking situation at Boonsboro High School. I think it is absolutely unbelievable that the BOE cannot step forward and get these kids ample parking, the families that come to the events at the schools ample parking and the other events that go on through those three schools ample parking. "

"As a homeowner and taxpayer in the City of Hagerstown, I think it's time for the city government to get out of the real estate business. All they're doing is driving up prices and taxes on our homes - homes that we long ago bought and paid for, and now are in the verge of losing them. Get out of the real estate business, people."

- Hagerstown

"I wish the ACLU would disappear off the face of the earth. What right do they have defending illegal immigrants to be in this country, like they're doing in Hazleton, Pa.? What about us Americans who belong here that don't want those illegals flooding our country? They are doing a number on us. We're working all of our lives to pay for a bunch of people to come into this country that don't belong here. It's OK to have immigrants, but not illegal immigrants. I say that we have to put a stop to it."

- Sharpsburg

"No, the five people that are challenging the hospital are not being frivolous at all. What has been frivolous is how our zoning laws have been enforced. Instead of worrying about whether we have a home-rule initiative on the ballot next time, perhaps we need to put an initiative just to get rid of the planning and zoning. It has never been enforced in this county, from day one."

- Hagerstown

"I recently bought a new truck and had the brush guard changed on it. I called and asked 'How much is it?' She said 'No charge - you're a good customer.' So I didn't have to pay, and I couldn't hardly believe that, because everywhere you go, you gotta pay - I don't care what it is. So I thought I'd put that in the paper and say there are some nice, decent people. Have a nice day."

- Hagerstown

"When I read in the newspaper tonight that builders want to put up an office space and some other buildings there at the Harpers Ferry battlefield, I just got sick to my stomach. Don't we hold anything sacred anymore? Obviously, it's all about the almighty dollar. I hope that other people feel the way that I do and will call in and see what we can do to try to save the land around these battlefields, because we've got to save something of American history. It can't all be about the dollar."

- Washington County

"This is to 'An inconvenient truth,' who spoke about replacing just 10 percent of Americans' petroleum usage, we'd need to install over 9.5 million rooftop household solar panels every year for 50 years. The news is that sooner or later, this earth's gonna run out of oil, so instead of yelling about not doing anything, let's try to do something, even if we only do it a little bit at a time."
