The Rainbow All Starz cheerleaders traveled to the Patriot Center at George Mason University in Fairfax, Va., March 2-4 to attend the 2007 Battle at the Capitol All Star National Championship, sponsored by Atlantic Cheer and Dance. The event was attended by more than 150 teams, one traveling from as far away as Arizona.

The competition began Friday evening with the individual and stunt group competition. Rainbow Pot o' Gold won the senior stunt group division and received a trophy, medals and National Champion jackets. The stunt group is comprised of five members who do a variety of stunts and basket tosses choreographed to music in a routine not to exceed two minutes.

Four of the members have performed together for six years. This was their first national championship competition. Members of the National Champion stunt group are Tess Hafer and Ashlie Besecker from Chambersburg, Pa., and Shannon Garland, Lauren Hickey and Kelsie Myers from Greencastle, Pa.

Semifinals were held on Saturday, with the top-scoring teams advancing to Sunday's final competition. The Rainbow senior and junior teams advanced to Sunday's final, with the senior level 3 team, Rainbow Xplosion, finishing in seventh place and the junior level 2 team, Rainbow Xcel, finishing in third place.

Rainbow will head to Virginia Beach, Va., at the end of March to compete at The Grand National Championship by the Sea, sponsored by Cheer and Dance Extreme.
