Girl's party helps schoolmates in need

March 16, 2007

Randi Leydig knows how to throw a party. For her, the fun is in the planning and the idea of getting her friends together.

For the second year in a row, Randi passed on gifts for herself, asking guests to donate to a good cause. Last year, $435 was raised for Old Forge Elementary School's PTA, where Randi is a fifth-grader.

This year, $1,092 was split between the families of two Old Forge students for medical bills. One of the students was in a car accident with her mother and two sisters; the other was a fellow fifth-grader who had third-degree burns on his legs.

Forty-three classmates and their families attended.

The Smithsburg Fire Co. donated the use of their facility for the Feb. 2 karaoke/dance party. Businesses donated decorations and items for raffles and game prizes.
