Body found near Cearfoss

March 13, 2007

From staff reports

CEARFOSS - The body of an adult male was found Tuesday morning on Md. 58 west of Shinham Road, according to Washington County Sheriff's Department investigators.

Sheriff Douglas Mullendore said Tuesday night that the body had been identified, but next of kin had not been notified. The man appears to have died from exposure, and the body had no obvious signs of trauma, Mullendore said.

"He had not been reported missing. He is kind of a transient-type person," Mullendore said.

Mullendore said he was not sure if the man was a Washington County resident.

Workers from Maryland Correctional Training Center were picking up trash when they found the body at about 9 a.m., police said. The body was over an embankment when workers found it.

"At this time, we have to treat it as suscipicious, but it's my understanding that they really don't think so," Mullendore said.

An autopsy is scheduled for this morning.
