Kathleen B. Barnhart celebrated her 90th birthday with a party Feb. 24 at Elks Lodge 378 in Hagerstown. Attending were 66 family members, friends, and neighbors. A birthday lunch and cake were served.
Her family includes three sons, nine grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grand children. Five generations were present at the party.
Son Mike and daughter-in-law Carolyn, with the help of their daughter Michelle Drury, provided the decorations, which included a picture table with pictures of family and friends over the years. Mike read a short history of Kathleen's life and her influence on her family. He had people at each table stand and introduce themselves.
There was a special moment for great-grandson Patrick Barnhart, who is serving in the U.S. Marine Corps and could not attend because he was about to be deployed for his third tour in Iraq. Son Dan gave the blessing of the meal, and sang two of Kathleen's favorite songs. After lunch, Kathleen visited with everyone and thanked them for coming. She had not seen some of her relatives for several years.
