NEEDMORE, Pa. - An abandoned house in Fulton County was heavily damaged Friday in a fire that was called in just before midnight, said Dennis Strait, chief of the Needmore Volunteer Fire Co.
"The northwest side was pretty much gone," Strait said of the house at the intersection of Buck Valley Road and Green Lane. The rest of the interior of the 2 1/2-story wood-frame farmhouse also was badly damaged, he said.
Strait said the cause of the fire is suspicious, and was being investigated by a Pennsylvania State Police fire marshal.
"Someone had set fire to it years ago and it was boarded up," Strait said.
Needmore was assisted by firefighters from Hancock and tankers from McConnellsburg, Pa., Berkeley and Morgan counties in West Virginia, and Allegany County, Md.
No one was injured in the fire, Strait said.
Firefighters were at the scene until 4:30 a.m., Strait said.
