Evangelical Lutheran Churches of America back ONE Campaign

March 10, 2007

The Evangelical Lutheran Churches of America (ELCA) in Washington County are supporting the ONE Campaign and the Millennium Development Goals by designating Sunday, March 18, as ONE SUNDAY.

"All Washington County ELCA churches will share God's Word and preach on the unity of all of God's children throughout the world and how the lack of basic human needs breach our unity," the churches announced in a press release. "We will preach about how God made us man and woman, not rich and poor. We will preach about raising up our voices as ONE to tell our leaders that we want God's justice throughout the world and we support the ONE Campaign's Millennium Development Goals. We know that we all have the resources to end world hunger and we, the ELCA Lutheran Churches here in Washington County, Maryland, have a unified voice and desire to make it end.

"We also think it is significant that a traditionally agricultural county of America that has been economically curtailed by the opening of foreign trade for apples and other fruit products, is willing to take a stand to eradicate world hunger."

The ONE Campaign is a bipartisan issue, according to the release.
