Former Landis Tool Co. could move operations

March 08, 2007|by JENNIFER FITCH

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - A spokesman for the former Landis Tool Co. said Wednesday that the company currently is in negotiations to move its operations.

Mike Rock declined to comment further, citing confidentiality associated with Cinetic Landis Grinding Corp.'s ongoing negotiations.

"They've been in Waynesboro well over 100 years," said L. Michael Ross, president of the Franklin County (Pa.) Area Development Corp.

Ross said the Sixth Street manufacturer of metal grinding machinery employs about 185 people.

"At one point, they were between five- and six-hundred people," he said.

Ross called the company, now part of France's Groupe Fives-Lille, "one of the major employers in Waynesboro" despite reductions in its work force.
