Ruth E. Brewer, 83

Ruth Elizabeth Brewer, 83, of Crystal Falls Drive, died Saturday March 3, 2007, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Sept. 11, 1923, in Gettysburg, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Hubert D. and Helen McSherry Snyder.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis E. Brewer, Feb. 19, 1997.

She was employed by Blosers Baby Shoe in Gettysburg.

She was a member of AARP.

She is survived by five children, Darlene E. Anderson of Petersburg, Ark., Judy A. Stillrich of Frederick, Md., Edward F. Brewer of Hanover, Md., Terry D. Brewer of Leitersburg and Timothy D. Brewer of Waynesboro, Pa.; three brothers, Donald L. Snyder and Samuel Snyder, both of Hagerstown, and Sherman E. Snyder of Fayetteville, Pa.; 14 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Hazel Kauffman and Mary Dingle Kendall; and four brothers, Hubert F. Snyder, Alton W. Snyder, Wayne F. Snyder and Herman M. Snyder.


Services will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at Ringgold Church of Christ. Pastors Don Conley, Richard Daughtridge and Ken Gillaspy will officiate. Burial will be in Rocky Hill Lutheran Cemetery in Woodsboro, Md.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at J.L. Davis Funeral Home, Smithsburg.

Richard L. Clopper, 84

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Richard L. "Dick" Clopper, 84, of 265 N. Carlisle Street, died Friday, March 2, 2007, at Chambersburg (Pa.) Hospital.

Born Feb. 2, 1923, in Waynesboro, Pa., he was the son of the late Harlan L. and Ethel M. Brown Clopper.

He graduated from Waynesboro High School with the class of 1941.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, serving on the USS Bataan in the South Pacific. Following his discharge, he was reassigned to the Reserves and during the Korean War, he served aboard the USS Enoree in the South Pacific.

He worked at Fitzgerald Toyota in Chambersburg prior to retiring in 1996.

He was a member of AMVETS Post 172 of Fairfield, Pa., Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1526 of Gettysburg, Pa., Fraternal Order of Eagles 1758 of Waynesboro, Joe Stickell American Legion Post 15 of Waynesboro and the National AARP.

He is survived by three children, David A. Clopper of Waynesboro, Barbara A. Witmer of Williamsport, Pa., and Nancy J. Clopper of Pompano Beach, Fla.; one brother, Carroll G. Clopper of Waynesboro; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by an infant brother, Howard Gerald Clopper.

Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, Waynesboro. Pastor Wilbur F. Besecker will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.

The family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Elijah W. Lewis, 90

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Elijah W. Lewis, 90, of Martinsburg, died Saturday, March 3, 2007.

Graveside services are today at 2:30 p.m. in Pleasant View Memory Gardens.

Friends will be received today from 9 a.m. to noon at Brown Funeral Home.

John J. Collins, 86

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - John J. Collins, 86, of 6080 Molly Pitcher Highway, died Friday, March 2, 2007, at his home.

Born July 6, 1920, in Doylesburg, Pa., he was the son of the late Gracy and Margaret (Devinney) Collins.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Myrtle V. Yocum Collins, who died Feb. 15, 1998.

He graduated from Fannett Township High School in 1939.

He retired from Letterkenny Army Depot in 1982.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army.

He was a Protestant.

He was a member of Zembo Shriners AAONMS of Harrisburg, Pa., George Washington Lodge 143 F&AM of Chambersburg, Pa., Wesley Yeager Post 606 American Legion, Fort Loudon, Pa., Mercersburg (Pa.) American Legion Post 517 and the Marine Corps League.

He is survived by two daughters, Stella M. Burgard of Duncannon, Pa., and Diana K. Keebaugh of Chambersburg; three grandchildren; one great granddaughter; and a special friend, Patricia Cutchall of McConnellsburg, Pa.

He was preceded in death by one sister and two brothers.

Services will be Thursday at 11:30 a.m. at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Chambersburg. The Rev. Paul B. Baker will officiate. Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, where members of Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post 1599 Honor Guard will conduct military honors.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 to 9 p.m. and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Masonic services will be Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the funeral home by members of Lodge 143 F&AM.
