For the record

March 04, 2007

The Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation's local Washington County One-Stop Job Center presented REACH Caregivers of Hagerstown a donation of $409 to support the continuing efforts of its Cold Weather Shelter. The shelter provides protection and nourishment for homeless adults during winter's coldest days.

"The employees here are always willing to help the community, especially during this time of the year when the weather can be so extreme." said Joan Hawbaker, who organized the event with Shari Williams, both Unemployment Insurance Claim Center specialists. The One-Stop Center also prepared lunches for the shelter during the week of Feb. 12.

The donation was acquired through various fundraising activities within the office. The 25 employees donated lunch items and then sold them. Staff members also cleaned out their closets and collected silent auction items to raise even more money. The donation was presented to REACH Director Terri Baker.

The Washington County One-Stop Center in Hagerstown is involved in many community projects and fundraising efforts and is open for any job-seeker needing guidance.
