Man holds knife to woman's throat in attempted robbery

March 01, 2007

A man who held a knife to the throat of a female and demanded money on Wednesday night fled from an East Antietam Street apartment before police arrived, Hagerstown Police Department Sgt. Mark Renner said.

No one was hurt in the attempted armed robbery-burglary at 7:20 p.m., Renner said.

Renner said the robber was described as a black man, 6 feet tall and weighing about 180 pounds, who was wearing black clothing and a black mask.

The robber rang the doorbell at an apartment in the 100 block of East Antietam Street, and, when a female answered the door, he went inside.

"He had a knife, and he held it to her throat and demanded money," Renner said.

When the man realized the female had no money, he fled, Renner said.

The man remained at large this morning, police said.
