Trains from estate donated to city

February 28, 2007|by DAN DEARTH

The Hagerstown City Council unanimously voted Tuesday night that it will accept as a gift, on the city's behalf, several trains from the estate of John Long and his heirs.

The ordinance becomes effective March 29.

The gift includes the Locomotive 202, eight cabooses, and all of the contents of the museum building and the metal storage building at City Park.

"This is a major, extensive gift that could have gone to a lot of other places," Councilman Lewis C. Metzner said. "It's a really positive thing."
