Tri-State FCA 14U Saints win second straight title

The President's Day weekend proved to be a busy and successful weekend for the Tri-State FCA Volleyball Club, as 8 of 10 teams traveled to various tournaments.

The 14U Saints claimed their second consecutive tournament title, winning the NVVA Loudoun 14's Tournament in Hamilton, Va. The Saints went 8-1 in pool play, defeated NVVA Loudoun 14B in the semifinals 25-10, 25-7 and beat Out Black Impact for the championship, 25-15, 16-25, 15-6.

Lily Pinkham (Clear Spring MS) had 16 kills, 26 aces and 13 digs; Megan Micco (Clear Spring MS) had 10 kills and 14 aces and Lauren Hockenberry (Hedgesville MS) had seven kills, 10 aces and four blocks. Taylor Belella (Smithsburg MS) had 28 assists, six kills, four aces and eight digs, Erin Garns (Greencastle MS) had 19 digs nine assists and seven aces and Trisha Leigh (Springfield MS) had 18 digs.

The 18U Guardians, 16U Revelation, 16U Avengers all traveled to Shippensburg, Pa., for the SpikeFest. The Revelation finished third in the 18's Division, while the Guardians and Avengers each advanced to the quarterfinal round.

The 16U Revelation went 6-2 prior to their semfinal match, which they lost in heartbreaking fashion to Cecil 18 Black, 25-15, 18-25, 15-17.

Mandy Jenkins (Clear Spring HS) had 30 kills and four aces, Rebecca Morgan (Grace Academy) had 19 kills, four aces and five blocks, Hannah Young (Broadfording Christian) had 15 kills and six blocks and Lacee Hershberger (Williamsport HS) had 12 kills and seven aces. Karli Powers (North Hagerstown HS) had 68 assists and Lauren Cox (Grace) had 27 digs.

The 18U Guardians finished second on their net in pool play, going 5-3. In the quarterfinals, they fell to Cecil Black 17-25 to finish tied for fifth.

Katie Koontz (Williamsport HS) had 11 kills, nine aces and seven blocks; Tara Garvers (Boonsboro HS) had seven kills, five aces, four blocks and 35 assists, Katie Gantz (Boonsboro HS) had nine kills and three aces and Chrissy Sheehan (Hedgesville HS) had nine kills. Stephanie Brooks (Musselman HS) added 15 assists and four aces, while Megan Cox (Grace Academy) had 16 digs.

The 16U Avengers finished pool play 3-5 and tied for first on their net, but ended up third in tiebreakers and missed out on the playoffs.

Emily Pinkham (Clear Spring HS) had 11 kills, two aces and nine blocks, Abby Elliott (Hedgesville HS) had nine kills and 11 aces, Alyssa Toth (Waynesboro HS) had 15 kills and Shailee Sorenson (Hedgesville HS) had 10 kills. Katie Blickenstaff (Clear Spring HS) had 21 assists and 20 digs, Amanda Hutzell (Williamsport HS) had 15 assists and Brittany Smetzer (Clear Spring HS) had 24 digs.

Three teams traveled to Washington for the first Capitol Hill Classic at the D.C. Convention Center. The 15U Halos won the Silver Division Championship, the 15U Genesis finished tied for 3rd in the Silver Division and the 18U Malachi finished first in the 2nd Flight Division.

In Monday's bracket play, the 15U Halos defeated sister team Genesis in the semi finals, before beating Downstate 15 Kaepa in the finals to win the Silver Division.

Lindsay Lacy (Clear Spring HS) had 36 kills, nine aces and 40 digs, Danielle DuBois (Broadfording Christian) had 34 kills, nine aces, and 45 digs, Nikki Siefer (Smithsburg HS) had 16 kills, eight aces and 15 blocks and Kelsey Gearhart (Greencastle-Antrim HS) had 18 kills, seven aces, 13 blocks and 58 digs. Becca Adams (Broadfording Christian) had 71 assists, Valerie Smith (Smithsburg HS) had 36 assists and Mollie Kieffer (Smithsburg HS) added 42 digs.

The Genesis defeated MVSA Extreme 20-25, 25-18, 11-15 before falling to the Halos in the semifinals.

Lauren Schoelen (Linganore HS) had 22 kills, 17 aces and 13 digs and Christine Walker (CVCS) had 28 kills, eight aces and 14 digs. Megan Plume (North Hagerstown HS) had 37 assists and Mallory Petty (Smithsburg HS) had 24.
