'Evening of Magic' to benefit Safe Place

Friends of Safe Place, Washington County's Child Advocacy Center, will present its first "Evening of Comedy and Magic," featuring nationally recognized and award-winning magicians Friday, March 16 at 7 p.m., at The Maryland Theatre.

Proceeds from the show support Safe Place, which provides services to children who have been physically or sexually abused.

The evening's acts are:

· Germany's Antje Pode, one of the stars of European variety theater. She provides entertainment for all by combining skills of a juggler with artistry of a high wire act.

· New Jersey's Ron Geoffries has performed in a variety of venues from cruise ships to corporate shows.

· Tony Chapek, whose show utilizes interactive media magic, has won first-place awards at the annual conventions of the Society of American Magicians, International Brotherhood of Magicians and at the Las Vegas Magic Desert Seminar.

· Jay Sterling makes use of art, science and illusion to bend the rules of reality. A native of Lancaster, Pa., he is a three-time international award winner and has presented his act, "FIGMENT," around the globe.


· Lynn Trefzger is a comedian and ventriloquist. She has won awards and performed all over the world.
