Holstein Association honors several

The Washington County Holstein Association held its annual banquet and awards meeting Feb. 20.

Donna Reese, secretary/treasurer for Maryland Holstein reminded everyone that Carroll County Holstein Association will host the state Holstein convention and sale.

The meeting and banquet will be March 9 at Martins at Westminster, Md., and the sale on March 10 will be at the Shipley Arena at the Carroll County Agricultural Center.

For 2008, Washington County Holstein members will host the convention and sale.

Reese congratulated Washington County Holstein Junior members who will be honored for their record books on the state level.

They are: Cory DeBaugh, 1st, first year boy; Tessa Wiles, 2nd Junior girl, Macayla Wiles, 4th Junior girl, Carol DeBaugh, 5th Junior girl; Scott DeBaugh, 3rd Intermediate boy; and Tracey Forsythe, Honorable Mention, Intermediate girl.

The State Holstein spring show is to be held April 7. Entries are due by March 14 for the lowest entry fee.

Reese congratulated Eric Wiles for his Jr. All-Maryland Spring Calf, Futuraland Zadoration Betty.

Dr. Matt Iager, Washington County show chairman, announced the county Holstein field day would be July 7, beginning at 10 a.m. at the Washington County Agricultural Education Center.

Nominations and elections were held.

Elected to serve for 2007 are: Matt DeBaugh, president; Brooks Long, vice president; Kelli Davis, treasurer; Joanna Calimer, secretary. Elected as directors for three years are: Brian Forsythe and Ryan Shank.

Six Washington County Jr. Holstein members were honored for their Distinguished Jr. Member Record Books.

Those honored were: Carol DeBaugh, Cory DeBaugh, Scott DeBaugh, Tracey Forsythe, Macayla Wiles and Tessa Wiles. Each received an award sponsored by Mid-Md. Dairy Veterinarians and presented by Dr. Jason Gress.

Jr. Awards for 2006 milk production records were presented to:

· High 2 Yr. Old and High Cow in Milk Overall (Sponsored by Misty Meadow Farm), Tessa Wiles, MD Heavensent Legend Joyce, 32,140 lbs.

· High 3 Yr. Old (Sponsored by Heavensent Holsteins), Ryan Shank, Da-Sa-Ra Marshall Saphire, 28,261 lbs.

· High 4 Yr. Old (Sponsored by DeBaugh Farms), Tessa Wiles, HSH Rudolph Black Velvet, 30,440 lbs.

· High Aged Cow (Sponsored by Majestic-Vu Farm), Ryan Wiles, Palmyra Emerson Amanda, 18,542 lbs.

· High Lifetime Production (Sponsored by Leggett Farm), Tessa Wiles, HSH Rudolph Black Velvet, 130,860 lbs.
