County schools receive recognition from state

Six elementary schools and one middle school in Washington County have been recognized by the State of Maryland for outstanding overall achievement on the Maryland School Assessment. Each school was recognized for two or more consecutive years of achievement and received a certificate from the state Board of Education, and $1,000 for instructional materials.

The following schools were honored for achievement: Clear Spring Middle School for three consecutive years; Greenbrier Elementary School for four consecutive years; Old Forge Elementary School for two consecutive years; Paramount Elementary School for four consecutive years; Pleasant Valley Elementary School for two consecutive years; Sharpsburg Elementary School for four consecutive years; and Smithsburg Elementary School for four consecutive years.
