City man, 26, dies in I-70 accident

A Hagerstown man died early this morning in a car accident on eastbound Interstate 70 west of Beaver Creek Road, according to a news release from the Maryland State Police.

Anthony Russell Simonetti, 26, of 18273 Roycroft Drive, Hagerstown, was pronounced dead at the scene by a forensic investigator from the medical examiner's office, police said.

Simonetti was alone in the 2005 Saab 93 when the car left the roadway and went into the center median, police said.

Police said the car, which was speeding, traveled about 650 feet over the embankment and then turned over several times.

Simonetti was not wearing his seat belt and was thrown from the car, police said.

No new information about the cause of the accident was available this morning, police said.
