Suns move to FM dial

The Hagerstown Suns have signed a two-year deal to have their games broadcast on WICL 95.9 FM, marking the club's first foray into FM radio in the Tri-State area.

WICL is a 6,000-watt oldies music station based in Martinsburg, W.Va. Its signal reaches as far as Hancock to the west, Gettysburg, Pa., to the east, Chambersburg, Pa., to the north and Winchester, Va., to the south

The Suns also have hired Casey Lynn as the director of media relations/broadcasting. Lynn, 23, of Long Island, N.Y., served as the assistant manager of broadcasting in 2006 for the Suns. He will call all 140 games on Cool 95.9 FM and at www.hagerstownsuns.com.

Boys basketball tournament

The Washington County Boys Middle School Basketball League will begin its postseason tournament this weekend at Broadfording Christian Academy.

Semifinal games will be played March 3, beginning at 9 a.m. Championship games will be played March 10, beginning at 9 a.m., followed by free throw and 3-point competitions for each division and seventh- and eighth-grade all-star games.

Admission is $3 for ages 13 and up, $2 for ages 7 to 12 and senior citizens. Children 6 and under are admitted free. Maximum cost is $10 per family. For information contact Kevin Smoot at 301-797-8886, ext. 164.

Robinson, Cain honored

Hagerstown Community College women's basketball players Jamie Robinson and Samantha Cain were selected for the 2006-07 All Maryland JuCo Conference Team.

Robinson was named to the second team, while Cain received honorable mention.

The Hawks play Prince George's on Friday Region XX quarterfinals at Prince George's.

Youth softball registration

Registration for both the elementary and middle school divisions of the Washington County Girls Softball League will be held Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Dick's Sporting Goods in the Centre at Hagerstown. Final registration will be held March 3 at the same time and site.
