Lab-supply maker opens facility near Williamsport

February 21, 2007|by TARA REILLY

A manufacturer of lab supplies for the life-sciences industry has opened a distribution center near Williamsport.

Pelican Life Sciences, based in Huntersville, N.C., is operating out of the former Trendlines Building at 9912C Governor Lane Boulevard, near Md. 68 (Lappans Road).

Gina Curcuru, executive assistant to Pelican Chief Executive Officer Bill Baugh, said the facility is serving as the distribution warehouse for the East Coast. The distribution center opened in November, she said.

The site's proximity to north, south, east and west transportation routes made it an attractive location, Curcuru said.

"Pelican Life Sciences will now be able to provide quick, efficient product delivery to biotech companies in the Washington, D.C., corridor, as well as clients in the eastern portion of the United States," Timothy Troxell, executive director of the Hagerstown-Washington County Economic Development Commission, said in a written statement. "The company found Washington County to be a cost-effective alternative to metro-area communities."

The facility employs 12 people.

Pelican Life Sciences was founded in December 2005. It operates in Frederick, Md.; Portland, Ore.; San Diego; Baja, Mexico; and Northampton, United Kingdom.
