Ten people indicted by Berkeley Co. grand jury

February 21, 2007|by MATTHEW UMSTEAD

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - A grand jury convened on the first day of the February term Tuesday in Berkeley County Circuit Court determined sufficient evidence was provided by the state to indict 10 people, according to signed copies of the panel's true bills released by Prosecuting Attorney Pamela J. Games-Neely's office.

An indictment merely reflects the grand jury's conclusion that the accused probably committed the crime or crimes in question. It is not evidence of guilt. Jurors are expected to reconvene today.

Indicted Tuesday were:

· Edward M. Bowman, 45, of 4933 Butts Mill Road in Hedgesville, W.Va., on counts of first-degree sexual assault, second-degree sexual assault and two counts of incest.

· Clifford Lee Rider, 29, of 109 E. Congress St. in Charles Town, W.Va., on two counts of malicious wounding and two counts of first-degree domestic battery.
