Filmmaking mini-academy set for Monday at Tech High

February 20, 2007

Teenagers from Washington County and the surrounding area are invited to attend a filmmaking mini-academy from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, Feb. 26. The mini-academy costs $5 per person and will take place at Washington County Technical High School, 50 W. Oak Ridge Drive, Hagerstown.

Filmmaking is complicated. Before picking up a camera even to shoot a short film, producers typically have a script lined up, along with actors, costumes, crew, lighting and sound equipment, and more.

The mini-academy will present basic filmmaking tips and techniques, training attendees in how to tell a story with video images.

Organizers of the event are working with the Washington County Teen Pregnancy Prevention Coalition. The Coalition is hosting a public service announcement contest which includes a 10-minute film category. First prize for the 10-minute film is $1,000. Second prize is $500.

For more information about the mini-academy, contact Chris Copley at 301-733-5131, ext. 2343. For details on how to enter the PSA contest, go to www.unitedwaywashcounty.org.
