Hispanic Chamber honors HCC

February 19, 2007

Hagerstown Community College was one of four Maryland community colleges recently honored by the Mid-Atlantic Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.

The Award for Educational Excellence was given to HCC in recognition of outstanding efforts in providing educational opportunities for the Hispanic population.

In recent years, HCC has made it a priority to reach out to the Hispanic population in its service area.

"A significant goal of ours has been realized with the hiring of a Hispanic recruiter," said Guy Altieri, HCC president. "It's quite an honor to be recognized by this group for the work we have done so far."

Washington County Public Schools also was honored at the recent ceremony.

The Mid-Atlantic Hispanic Chamber of Commerce serves Washington County, Frederick County, Montgomery County and Prince George's County in Maryland. It is divided into local chapters, which sponsor projects, support local community activities and help deliver services to local members.
