February 19, 2007

The United States Achievement Academy recently recognized eight Heritage Academy students as All-American Scholars. Eligible students must maintain an overall minimum grade-point average of 3.3, and must be selected by a teacher based on other criteria, including dependability, enthusiasm and leadership abilities.

The students selected by Heritage journalism teacher Denise Schlimgen were senior Brittany Eberly; junior Megan Mowen; sophomores Seth Brewer, Danae Deal, Grace O'Brien and Rachel Shirk; and freshmen Brianna Dorsey and Grace Johnson.

Eberly is a second-year journalism student and a member of the school newspaper and yearbook staffs. She is a first-year member of Heritage's chapter of the Quill & Scroll International Honor Society for High School Journalists and serves as the vice president/treasurer of Quill & Scroll.

Mowen is a third-year journalism student and a member of both publication staffs. During her sophomore year, she served as editor of the Eagle Echoes, Heritage's school newspaper. She is now the editor of the Conqueror, Heritage's yearbook. She is a second-year member of Heritage's Quill & Scroll and serves as president of the chapter.
