MEDA seeks annual award submissions

ABERDEEN, Md. - The Maryland Economic Development Association (MEDA) is seeking submissions for the 2007 MEDA Awards, which will recognize the outstanding achievements of the association's members in 2006.

The awards will be given in areas of:

· Economic Development Project or Program.

· Economic Development Redevelopment Project or Program

· Economic Development Overall Marketing Campaign

· Life Member

· Hall of Fame

· Volunteer of the Year

Deadline for submissions is March 16. Judging will be conducted by economic development professionals who will follow specific criteria in each area. The award winners will be announced at MEDA's 2007 Annual Conference at Rocky Gap Lodge and Golf Resort in Allegany County in June.

WID seeking annual award nominees

FREDERICK, Md. - The Women in Defense Greater Frederick Chapter (WID-GFC) will honor local community leaders who have inspired young people to "reach for the stars" in math and/or science.

Maj. Gen. Gale Pollock, deputy surgeon general, U.S. Army and chief, Army Nurse Corps, will present the awards at the first annual WID-GFC "Reach for the Stars" dinner.

The dinner will be held on April 26 at Dutch's Daughters Restaurant at 581 Himes Ave., Frederick.

Award candidates may come from industry, academia, government, or the military. Nominees must live or work in the greater Frederick area and be over the age of 18.

The Greater Frederick area includes Columbia/Baltimore, Germantown/Gaithersburg, West Virginia, and nearby Pennsylvania (Gettysburg, New Cumberland, etc).
