Teen idol contest in W.Va.

HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - Auditions are this weekend in the Hometown Idol competition at Hedgesville High School.

Event organizer Elaina Diggs invited teens in eighth through 12th grades to compete from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 16, or from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 17. The Hometown Idol competition will be held April 19 through 21.

Cash prizes will be awarded to first- and second-place finishers.

AAUW offers scholarships

The Hagerstown Branch of the American Association of University Women announces that scholarship applications for the 2007-08 school year are now available.

Any female student who is a Washington County resident is eligible to apply. This includes graduating high school seniors, current college students and women who wish to return to school.


Applications have been sent to guidance offices of Washington County public and private high schools and to Hagerstown Community College.

Deadline for the return of the application is March 5. Anyone unable to obtain an application at her school may call 301-739-7861 and leave name and full mailing address on the answering machine.
