Ag grants go to Frederick Fair, museum and others

GLEN BURNIE, Md. - Maryland's agricultural industry leaders dined here with state and national legislators Feb. 1. More than 700 people attended.

The Maryland Agriculture Council, which teaches the public about agriculture's im-portance, awarded $7,000 for projects throughout the state.

Grants and winners include:

· Bell Nursery sponsoring $2,500 grant for LEAD Maryland, an agricultural leadership development program.

· The Great Frederick Fair, $1,000. It is to be used for the "Let's Grow a Pizza" program for about 5,000 third-graders in Frederick County.

· Frederick County Farm Museum, $750. It is to help with the cost of the Maryland Agricultural Foundation showcase to be displayed at the museum.

· AGNR Edwin Remsburg, $500. It is for framing costs for "The Georgic Odyssey; Where your food comes from" photo exhibit throughout the state, and for use by other groups as part of a multimedia slide show with recorded interviews with Maryland farmers and a weekly speaker series on issues related to food and agriculture.
