City man shot in the leg in his home

A 41-year-old Hagerstown man was injured when one of two bullets fired from a passing vehicle hit him in the leg while he was inside his home, Washington County Sheriff's Department Investigator Ryan Shifflet said.

Arnold Ray Strickland Jr. was in fair condition Sunday night, a Washington County Hospital switchboard operator said.

Strickland was inside his mobile home in the 20600 block of Old Forge Road near Hagerstown at about 5 p.m., when the shooting happened, Shifflet said. One bullet struck Strickland's right leg, and the other wound up in a wall fixture, Shifflet said.

Shifflet said late Sunday night that police did not have details about the vehicle or a motive for the shooting. The vehicle involved in the shooting was gone by the time police arrived at the scene, he said.

Shifflet asked that anyone with information about the shooting call him at the Sheriff's Department at 301-791-3020.
